🧬 RABMS Presents 12 New Contributions in Experimental, Clinical, and Applied Medical Sciences

Research in Applied and Basic Medical Sciences (RABMS) is pleased to announce the publication of a new issue featuring 12 research contributions spanning experimental, clinical, pharmaceutical, educational, and applied medical sciences.

🔬 12 Articles | 🧪 Experimental Research | 🩺 Clinical Science | 💊 Pharmaceutical Research | 👩‍⚕️ Health & Nursing | 🌍 Public Health

This issue brings together research investigating medicinal plants, toxicology, pharmacology, reproductive health, occupational exposure, renal and prostate pathology, pharmaceutical formulation, sports performance, congenital anomalies, and infectious diseases.

🌿 Natural Products & Medicinal Plant Research

The issue features several studies exploring the biological effects and potential therapeutic applications of natural products.

A toxicological and histopathological study evaluates extracts from five medicinal plants used as potential protectants against insect infestation, examining their effects on liver and kidney function and tissue structure in BALB/c mice.

Another experimental study investigates the nutritional, phytochemical, and hypolipidemic properties of four medicinal plants traditionally used in Southern Nigeria. The study reports lipid-lowering and hepatoprotective effects in an animal model, highlighting the potential of these plants for further investigation.

🌱 From traditional medicine to experimental evidence:
The findings contribute to ongoing research into the safety and therapeutic potential of medicinal plants.

🧪 Toxicology, Pharmacology & Experimental Medicine

Research in experimental pharmacology and toxicology is strongly represented in this issue.

One investigation examines the subchronic effects of ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel on hematological parameters, cytokine signaling, and oxidative stress in Wistar rats.

Another study evaluates the effects of dextromethorphan exposure on testicular and epididymal structure and investigates whether the antioxidants rutin and quercetin can contribute to recovery from the observed changes.

The issue also includes research on nandrolone decanoate-induced prostate changes, documenting alterations in prostate weight and histopathological features following exposure.

🏭 Occupational & Environmental Health

A study of plasma lead levels and oxidative stress markers in petroleum workers provides insight into the biological effects associated with occupational exposure.

The research identifies differences in lead levels and antioxidant-related parameters between exposed workers and controls, emphasizing the importance of occupational monitoring, exposure control, and preventive health strategies.

⚠️ Occupational exposure matters:
Biomonitoring and preventive interventions can play an important role in protecting workers from long-term health consequences.

🩺 Kidney Health & Protective Strategies

The issue also addresses renal toxicity and potential protective interventions.

One experimental study investigates the effects of sodium fluoride exposure on kidney morphology, histology, and biochemical markers of renal function, while examining whether vitamin E can mitigate these changes.

The findings provide experimental evidence concerning fluoride-associated renal alterations and the potential protective role of antioxidant supplementation.

💊 Pharmaceutical Sciences & Drug Compatibility

In the field of pharmaceutical sciences, a physicochemical investigation examines the compatibility of amoxicillin and lactose in the solid state.

Using techniques including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry, the study identifies incompatibility between the drug and lactose under the investigated conditions.

💡 Why it matters:
Drug–excipient compatibility is an important consideration during pharmaceutical formulation and pre-formulation studies because interactions may influence drug stability and dosage-form performance.

👩‍⚕️ Nursing Education & Clinical Decision-Making

The issue extends beyond laboratory research to health-professions education.

A quasi-experimental study conducted at Urmia University of Medical Sciences investigates the effect of evidence-based education on clinical decision-making among nursing students.

Students who participated in the educational intervention demonstrated improved clinical decision-making scores following the intervention, highlighting the importance of evidence-based education in developing clinical competencies and supporting safe, high-quality patient care.

🏆 Sports Science & Athletic Performance

In sports and exercise science, researchers investigate the combined effects of short-term caffeine supplementation and post-activation potentiation on fatigue and anaerobic performance among professional Wushu athletes.

The study reports improvements in measures of anaerobic power following the interventions, contributing to research on strategies that may help optimize athletic performance.

🏃 Performance & science:
The study connects nutritional supplementation and exercise strategies with measurable aspects of athletic performance.

👶 Congenital Anomalies & Developmental Medicine

The issue also presents a case series on amniotic band syndrome, an uncommon condition associated with a wide range of congenital abnormalities.

Six fetal cases are described, demonstrating different patterns of limb, craniofacial, and body-wall abnormalities. The report illustrates the diverse clinical and anatomical manifestations of the condition and emphasizes its consideration when multiple congenital anomalies are identified.

🦠 Infectious Diseases & Diagnostic Challenges

The issue concludes with “Unveiling the Complexity of Campylobacter Bacteremia,” presenting a case of Campylobacter coli bacteremia in an older man with diabetes who developed bloodstream infection without preceding diarrhea.

The case highlights the potential for Campylobacter infection to present beyond its more familiar gastrointestinal manifestations and emphasizes the importance of accurate laboratory identification and pathogen-targeted treatment.

🌍 A Diverse Issue Reflecting Modern Biomedical Research

The 12 contributions in this issue demonstrate the breadth and interdisciplinary nature of contemporary biomedical research.

From medicinal plants and experimental toxicology to pharmaceutical sciences, occupational health, nursing education, sports science, congenital anomalies, and infectious diseases, the issue brings together diverse perspectives and research approaches.

🔬 Exploring science.

🩺 Supporting clinical knowledge.

🌱 Advancing health research.

RABMS invites researchers, clinicians, healthcare professionals, academics, and students to explore the newly published articles and engage with the diverse research presented in this issue.
